Safety + SMS

Every air operator knows that safety has become a significant element of flying in the modern world. Unfortunately, for some it has also developed into a burden and an inconvenience, particularly as regulations increase and operators struggle to meet the growing requirements.

The airline industry is probably best known for incredibly successful efforts in the advancement in safety, with vast numbers of passengers flying every year and huge budgets to implement safety strategies and programs. One of the big problems for the rest of the aviation industry is that these strategies have filtered down to much smaller operators, who do not have the budget, means or needs to follow them. No wonder safety in general aviation gets a bad reputation.

The Squadron approaches safety from the perspective of the smaller operator, typically doing more than flying from A to B. Compliance with regulations has to remain a priority, but the practices used must work for the operator in order to achieve the results that “safety” intended.
